Aquilegia

30th April 2020

Aquilegia - April 2020

After quite a few weeks of gorgeous weather, this week we had rain. Not a lot of rain, but enough to encourage a few more springtime blooms to reveal themselves.

As I was still hobbling around on crutches, I could only manage a few shots from my patio, but I was very pleased to find this pretty Columbine (Aquilegia vulgaris) bloom within easy reach of my macro lens.

Allium Ahoy - April 2020

The Allium buds had also began to bloom. I think this is variety 'Purple Sensation', but can't be one hundred percent positive.

First Oxeye - April 2020

This week also saw the first of the Oxeye Daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare) blooms in my garden, and it looked like there were plenty more to come.

Clematis Montana - April 2020

The Clematis montana 'Mayleen' was still producing flowers, although those that were blooming last week had been destroyed by the rain.

Felicia - April 2020

As well as the rain, the weather had also turned a bit colder, and this had had an effect on the petals of the Blue Marguerite (Felicia amelloides) daisies, turning them back on themselves.

Hosta Emergence - April 2020

A bit of rain had definitely encouraged the return of the Hostas, which would require pretty much constant watering from now on.

So this week I went with Aquilegia as my Image of the Week simply because it was the prettiest flower I could find within easy photographing distance of my patio...
