Cherry Tree Blossom

Cherry Tree Blossom - April 2020

Despite having unseasonally warm weather recently, it was a typical cool sunny spring day for my photo shoot in dad's garden this week.

The recent warm weather had done wonders for many of the garden residents, one of which was the old Cherry (Prunus) tree, whose branches were absolutely full of blossom. I was particularly enamoured by this as the bulk of the blossom usually only lasts for a few days, and I undoubtedly miss it. So this year I was pleased to be treated to a full display.

Pittosporum - April 2020

There were lots of new blooms in the garden this week, and one of my favourites was the dark maroon coloured blossom of the Pittosporum bush.

Tartarian Honeysuckle - April 2020

Another favourite was the Tartarian Honeysuckle (Lonicera tatarica). I loved the way the petals were catching the sunlight in a dark corner of the garden.

Green Alkanet - April 2020

The sunny weather also heralded the return of the weeds - some of them prettier than others! I rather liked the Green Alkanet (Pentaglottis sempervirens) as it's small blue flowers reminded me of Forget-me-not blooms.

Erigeron - April 2020

This week the small daisy like flowers of the Erigeron 'Stallone' (Erigeron karvinskianus) plants had also decided to come out and do some sun worshipping...

Spiraea Vanhouttei - April 2020 had an advance party of Spiraea vanhouttei blossom.

Spanish Bluebells - April 2020

The Spanish Bluebells (Hyacinthoides hispanica) were also putting in an appearance for the first time this year.

Welsh Poppy - April 2020

There were also growing numbers of Welsh Poppies (Meconopsis cambrica) appearing all over the garden.

Bay Tree Blossom - April 2020

The Bay (Laurus nobilis) tree blossom continued to impress, with most of the branches covered in this pretty yellow blossom.

Holly Bush Buds - April 2020

Finally, it wouldn't be long before the Holly (Ilex) bushes would be covered in blossom, as they were sporting lots of buds.

So this week I went with Cherry Tree Blossom as my Image of the Week simply because it's been years since I've seen the branches of the tree weighed down with so much beautiful blossom...
