Dianthus Dewdrops

12th August 2021

Dianthus Dewdrops - August 2021

I managed to fit in a quick early morning photo shoot in my garden this week, and was pleased that some of my flowers were coated in a fine layer of dewdrops.

My favourite of these were the Dianthus (Dianthus caryophyllus) 'Rocking Red' blooms, where the dewdrops were sparkling in the early morning sunshine.

Oriental Anthers - August 2021

A new flower to the garden this week was the Oriental Lily (Lilium orientalis), which had been threatening to open for weeks, but was battling against an infestation of both Lily Beetles and Black Fly. I was very pleased to see that it had overcome its adversaries.

Pink Geranium - August 2021

It was nice to see that the Geranium (Pelargonium) 'Salmon Princess' blooms were still going strong, despite being neglected for the past couple of months.

White Lewisia - August 2021

The Lewisia (Lewisia cotyledon) plants had began their second crop of flowers. This was the first year I'd kept Lewisia, and I wasn't expecting them to flower again, so that was a very nice surprise.

Yellow Coreopsis - August 2021

The Coreopsis (Coreopsis grandiflora) 'Golden Joy' plants continued to pop up and surprise me too, not for their repeat flowering ability, but more for their staying power.

Pink Achillea - August 2021

My various pots of Achillea (Achillea millefolium) continued to flower well. This one was labelled as 'Cerise Queen' but I wasn't convinced that it was labelled correctly!

Butterfly Bush Blooms - August 2021

The Butterfly Bush (Buddleia) continued to get bigger and bigger, and was now covered in flowers.

Allium Seed Head - August 2021

Finally the Drumstick Allium (Allium sphaerocephalon) flower heads were turning into seed heads, indicating that it wouldn't be long before summertime ended and autumn began.

So this week I went with Dianthus Dewdrops as my Image of the Week simply because it was the best photo of this week's crop...
