Shell Dwellers - August 2021

It has been another week where I haven't had a lot of time for photography, but have spent quite a lot of time with my fishy friends, so decided to combine my two hobbies.

These little beauties are the most recent arrivals to my fish room and are called Neolamprologus multifasciatus (or Multies for short). They are a small shell dwelling species of Cichlid that originate from Lake Tanganyika in Africa. I love their bright blue eyes, which definitely makes them quite a photogenic fish, despite them being predominantly grey.

Zebra Danio - August 2021

It's not often that I manage to get a sharp shot of a Zebra Danio (Danio rerio). They move so quickly that it's almost an impossible task, so I was quite pleased with this image.

Rescued Platy - August 2021

This is a Platy (Xiphophorus) I was given from a friend who was no longer interested in keeping tropical fish. He'd lived all of his life with only a few Danios for company...

Sunset Platy - August 2021

...so I decided to get him a few girlfriends! He now shares a tank with four of these Sunset Platies (Xiphophorus).

Danio Group - August 2021

Now here is a rare thing - a sharp shot of more than one Danio! The one on the left is a Leopard Danio (Danio rerio) and the other three are Zebra Danio (Danio rerio). Note that they are the same species. The Leopard Danio has had quite the history of scientific names, but it is now believed that it is a colour morph of the Zebra Danio.

Celestial Pearl Danio - August 2021

Finally, I've been trying to get a good sharp picture of a Celestial Pearl Danio (Danio margaritatus) for quite some time. Unfortunately, this is not it! However, I thought it was good enough to post, as you can see how colourful it is.

So this week I went with Shell Dwellers as my Image of the Week simply because I love that striking blue eye...
