Blooming Dog Rose

Blooming Dog Rose - June 2022

I managed to complete my photo shoot in dad's garden this week in between downpours. Despite it not being the greatest weather for nature photography, there were still plenty of things to point my camera at, and I thought I ended up with a few decent images.

Probably my favourite was of this Dog Rose (Rosa canina), not necessarily because it was the best photo I took, but more because the plant had been completely removed, or so I'd thought. I was very pleased to have it back in the garden again.

Escallonia Arrival - June 2022

I wasn't sure why, but this Escallonia bush hadn't flowered last year, so it was also good to have its blooms back in the garden.

Purple Toadflax - June 2022

The Purple Toadflax (Linaria purpurea) was a lovely flower to have in the garden. I know it's technically a weed, but it was an insect magnet, and anything that keeps the insect population ticking over is a good thing in my book. Plus, just look how pretty it is!

Delicate Wildflower - June 2022

I'm pretty sure that this dainty looking thing is also a weed, but can't for the life of me place its name. Anyone who can, then please let me know.

Blooming Bramble - June 2022

Sticking with the weed theme, the Bramble (Rubus fruticosus) bushes were now in full swing, and were sporting loads of white flowers. The flowers were great, it was their spiky branches that were the problem!

Bracts and Blooms - June 2022

This Climbing Hydrangea (Hydrangea anomala) bush is most definitely not a weed, and was putting on a magnificent display at the moment. For those that don't know, the big white things are bracts, and the much smaller explosion like things are the flowers.

Berberis Blooms - June 2022

The Berberis bushes were still in flowering mode, although there were fewer and fewer branches sporting flowers.

Flowering Feverfew - June 2022

My prediction that there'd be plenty of Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) flowers to look at last week was a good one, as the plant had erupted in blooms.

Budding Hypericum - June 2022

It looked like the flower buds of the Hypericum bush that sported the large yellow flowers were almost ready to burst open. I suspect I'll be able to photograph them during my photo shoot next week.

Hairy Leaf Rester - June 2022

With the weather being quite changeable, there weren't many of my bug buddies out and about, but I did manage to find this hairy chap resting on a leaf, waiting for the sun to come out.

Resting Hoverfly - June 2022

I also found this Hoverfly (Syrphidae) resting in the curves of a Pittosporum bush leaf.

So this week I went with Blooming Dog Rose as my Image of the Week simply because I was glad to see the Roses return after a couple of years away...
